Hi all --
And Happy New Year's Eve! -- or New Years, for some.
My 'eve gift was two cartons of Miles in Love -- shipped straight from the printer -- which is a $14 trade paperback. The cover actually looks quite classy. With the two novels, the novella, and a new Afterword, it makes for a hefty volume and, I hope, a pretty good value.
What I'd been watching eagerly for was the galleys of The Sharing Knife, Vol. 3: Passage, which were supposed to have arrived Saturday morning but still haven't shown. Delayed in dispatching or transit, I suppose. Can't pursue it till Wednesday, now. I'll just have to find another project for New Year's Day. I have a copy of The Elegant Universe from the library, a stack of other books, and a home office due for its annual shoveling-out, so I won't lack for options.
Tonight: pizza, wine, and DVDs with a couple of close friends, very low-key, which is just about my definition of an ideal party.
And better still, my right ear functions again. Like Miles, I now have a prosthetic bone transplant. I have back about 80%, a trifle muddy when listening to music tho' that may yet clear out some more, but just fine for conversation, which had become a strain in monaural. Hooray for 21st Century surgery!

Subject: (news) Bujold PLA visit March 2008
Date: Tue, 18 Dec 2007
Hiya --
This appearance isn't open to the public, but there are enough librarians on the list that it might be of interest anyway: I will be a guest panelist at the Public Library Association Twelfth National Conference (which runs from March 25-29) in Minneapolis, Minnesota, at the Convention Center. I will be on a panel titled "Catch a Northern Star: Minnesota Authors Who Speak To Teens", presently scheduled for Friday, March 28, 2008 at 8:30 AM.
Which is normally about the time I'd be getting up, but hey, for librarians I'm willing to go the extra mile.

Subject: (News) Blackstone picks up TSK3 & TSK4
Date: Fri, 14 Dec 2007
Hiya --
I am pleased to report that Blackstone Audiobooks has picked up the audio rights for The Sharing Knife, Vol. 3: Passage and The Sharing Knife, Vol. 4: Wide Green World (or whatever it ends up subtitled). Since I just signed the contract, I have no guesses yet how long it will take them to get through production. (Not to mention #4 hasn't even gone through the final edit yet.) But I'm delighted Blackstone is now carrying so much of my list, both back and front.

Subject: (chat) Ohioana photos up
Date: Mon, 03 Dec 2007
I see the Ohioana Library has a collection of photos from their 2007 awards weekend up on their website now, here --
I'm sorry there aren't more general shots to give an idea of what the inside of the building looks like, a converted manufacturing plant. Lotsa room and a wonderful industrial-strength concrete floor beneath the carpeting to support lots of bookshelves.
